Former BROKEN HOPE Guitarist Teams Up With Electronic Producer In BECOMING
December 13, 2002Former BROKEN HOPE founder/songwriter/guitarist Jeremy Wagner has teamed up with extreme/electronic hardcore producer Delta 9 in a new project called BECOMING.
The group recently completed work a three-song promo CD at Delta 9's Deep 13 studios. It was produced by Delta 9 and mastered at Mastermind Studios by Trevor Sadler (NINE INCH NAILS, SOIL, RUSH).
Delta 9 currently runs his own record label (Psychotik Records),and DJs extreme electronic music at events all over the world. He remixes bands at Deep 13 and wanted to pursue extreme metal as another outlet for his creativity. A longtime fan of black and death metal, Delta 9 felt Wagner was the proper partner for his new endeavor.
"I've been familiar with BROKEN HOPE for years and have known Jeremy for awhile," says Delta 9. "When I first dabbled with the thought of BECOMING, I had heard that BROKEN HOPE had split up, and I thought I'd call Jeremy to see what he was up to. I wanted to work with a guitarist with an established foundation, and Jeremy was the only guitarist I knew in the Chicagoland area who had an impressive track record for writing extreme metal. I approached him and we got along great. Now we have an insane demo.”
On working with Delta 9 and BECOMING, Wagner says, "It was cool to hear from Delta 9 and to get a chance to work with him. I originally met Delta 9 through Shaun Glass of SOIL over 10 years ago. I've always been a fan of Delta 9's debut album, 'Disco Inferno' (Earache Records),and his remixes of NAPALM DEATH, SOIL, and his work with Interscope Records is all killer. The timing was right for BECOMING because my EARTHBURNER project still hasn't secured a record deal, and my main, priority band, PASTYFACE, has a lot of work to do before we record or anything. Delta 9 and I have a common vision, so it's no surprise that things have gone so quickly and smoothly."
BECOMING is dark/extreme music with black, grind and death metal elements. Delta 9 handles vocals, programming, and keys while Wagner sticks to guitars, bass, and guitar-synth work.
"We have a lot of material for an album already," says Delta 9. "We already have the name, pictures, and the promotional-demo. The next step is hooking up with a good label that can handle extreme material and take BECOMING to the next level. After that, we're planning on taking this out of the studio. All we can say is people will be surprised…"
